To Guests who would like to attend the conference.

(Member Churches have already received a more detailed invitation by e-mail, dated 15 Feb. 2018)

Dear Brothers in Christ,

Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus!

The 25th European Lutheran Conference is being held at High Leigh Conference Centre, Hoddesdon, England, 31 May – 2 June. The Conference is meeting under the theme ‘Good News in a Fake New World’ and will be an opportunity to discuss matters relevant to our time and our churches. We will also have a visit to the British Museum for a Bible History Tour. The details of the conference are in the attached programme.

Attendance

The ELC Member Churches are invited to send two delegates – one ordained minister and one lay member (and the SELK may send up to 3 ordained ministers and 3 lay members – cf. Guiding Principles, Article 4.2).

Guest Churches are being invited to send a representative.

The pastors of the ELCE are also invited to attend some or all of the conference as guests.

Finance

The European Lutheran Conference funding is, of course, from ourselves based on capacity to pay and we gratefully acknowledge the major support the SELK make.

Guests / Guest churches are expected to pay their own travel and accommodation costs.

The conference cost for food and lodging (4 nights) at High Leigh is £240.

Programme

The Conference commences on Wednesday evening (30 May) which is preceded by a Heads of Churches Meeting (hosted by Jon Ehlers). The Conference then continues for three days concluding with a fellowship time with members of the ELCE. On Sunday (3 June) conference delegates are invited to worship in nearby ELCE congregations and if pastors attending the conference would like to preach on the Sunday please let me know.

The devotional times are at the beginning and end of the conference and at the beginning and end of each day. Four Member Churches are asked to lead devotions this year. They are: France (Thursday evening), Germany (Friday morning), Belgium (Friday evening), and Portugal (Saturday morning).

Bible Texts for devotions and a Lectio Continua for the Conference are printed on the programme.

Attendance and Travel

When you know the information would you kindly communicate the following to the ELC Executive - but particularly to me.

  1. Who is coming - please include everyone attending from your church whether they be a delegate or a guest
  2. Date / Time of arrival
  3. Date / Time of departure

Travel Directions to High Leigh Conference Centre, Hoddesdon (from its website):

BY ROAD

Postcode - EN11 8SG

High Leigh Conference Centre is seven miles from the M25. From Junction 25, take the northbound AID dual carriageway towards Hertford. Leave the AID at the junction for Hoddesdon and follow the road towards the town. At the roundabout take the third exit signed 'Town Centre' (alongside Morrisons). Turn right at the church into Pauls Lane and bear left into Taverners Way. Take the first right into Lord Street and continue up the hill for just under a mile. High Leigh is on the left.

BY RAIL

Our local Railway station is Broxbourne.

There is a regular service from London Liverpool Street, which also connects with the Underground Victoria Line at Seven Sisters or Tottenham Hale. The station is two miles from the Centre, but there are plenty of taxis at reasonable rates (typically £6).

BY AIR

Stansted Airport is 40 minutes away by road or a 35 minute train journey from Broxbourne.

If you have any travel questions, please ask!

May the Lord of the Church bless you and your Churches, journey with you to our time together, and lead us in worship, praise, fellowship, and productive study.

In the name of the ELC Committee,

With Christian greetings,

George Samiec,
ELC Secretary
